KATSEYE Announces Fandom Name
On April 12, 2024, KATSEYE took to social media to announce their fandom name! In the video, the girls are seen opening an envelope, which supposedly reveals their fandom name.
They then thanked the fans for sending in such creative ideas, but mentioned that the one selected was the one that resonated with the group.
Then they reveal their fandom name: EYEKONS. The girls showed major love for the fandom name, stating that it captured their hearts the moment they heard it.
They continued to call their fans EYEKONS throughout the video. They expressed their desire to finally meet EYEKON and pay back the love they received.

While the girls and their fans were happy about the nickname, the K-pop community as a whole was not on board.
KATSEYE Accused of Copying iKON's Name For Fandom Label
It was quickly pointed out that EYEKON sounds extremely similar to the K-pop boy group iKON. In fact, the Hangeul is nearly identical, with iKON written out as 아이콘 and EYEKON written out as 아이콘스.
If written in Korean, fans believe it could cause confusion among readers and fans.
Many iKONICs (iKON fans) are asking HYBE Labels to change their fandom name so as not to make the situation confusing. It was also pointed out that this is the second fandom name controversy a HYBE group experienced this month, sparking backlash against the company for being negligent.

Back on April 21, ILLIT announced their fandom name was LILLYs. This immediately drew backlash, as it was noted that NMIXX has a member named Lilly.
Additionally, Lillies is the fandom name for BLACKPINK member Lisa. Soon after the backlash, HYBE Labels announced that they would be changing ILLIT's fandom name.
