Idol Garners ‘Underwhelming’ Album Sales Despite Being With SM Sub-Label: ‘I’d Quit if I Were Him'

This idol is gaining attention for only gaining 800 plus album sales despite being with SM Entertainment's sub-label.

Here's what happened.

Kim Woojin's 'Low' Album Sales For 'I Like The Way' Draws Attention

Earlier on April 22, former Stray Kids member turned solo artist Woojin officially released his newest title track "I Like The Way," which is the title track of his third mini album of the same name.

Apart from the title track, the album also features B-sides such as "Pretty Mess," "What U Say," "Hold," and "To. My Friend." On YouTube, the music video for "I Like The Way" has currently garnered a total of 74,456 views, as of April 25.

Here's how fans reacted:

  • "I don't know why this song is not famous, it's a crazy song."
  • "Woojin's music deserves to be appreciated by many people."
  • "It's a crime that it doesn't have more views."
  • "He has such a strong vocal, hope his new agent allows him to do more exploration, music, and comebacks more often!"

Many CUBS on the MV supported Woojin's music, but most of the spotlight was drawn towards his album sales. According to Hanteo Chart, Kim Woojin's release made a total of 856 album sales on its first day.

On social media platform X (Twitter), netizens reacted to the idol's sales performance. Many mocked Woojin's physical album charting since the idol was expected to go big due to his exclusive contract with Kustomade, the newest subsidiary label of SM Entertainment.

Woojin debuted with Stray Kids on March 25, 2018. However, his stay in the group was short-lived, as on October 27, 2019, JYP Entertainment officially announced his departure from the group and the company due to personal circumstances.

After leaving JYPE, Woojin signed an exclusive contract with 10x Entertainment. The agency shared that Woojin will be provided with support for his endeavors in various fields and that with the agency's resources, he plans to make a solo debut.

"We have signed an exclusive contract with Kim Woojin, and we will offer our full support for him to flourish in different fields," it stated. "We plan to produce his solo debut album in 2021."

In March 2024, Woojin signed with Kreation Music Rights' Kustomade, which garnered anticipation from fans.
