In a recent interview, Rowoon talked about his transition from becoming an idol to being a full-fledged actor. Why did he leave SF9?
On April 25, the YouTube talk show, "Jo Hyun Ah's Thursday Night" led by the Urban Zakapa singer featured former SF9 Rowoon as its guest.
On this day, the male star opened up about his job as an actor, then revealed his real feelings after leaving SF9 to focus on his new career path.
Idol Rowoon Conveys Feelings on Becoming Actor From Being SF9 Member
On that day, Rowoon recalled his previous acting gigs when Jo Hyun Ah asked:
"Basically, you turned into an actor, right? Was there anyone that made you think that you could transform into an actor?"
With this, the male star frankly replied, addressing his withdrawal from the group:
"There wasn't a particularly person, but it was just on me. I was confident. I felt that it was fun. I thought about it for a long time. I also knew that there would definitely be risks in the decision. Still, we only have one life, right? I have to take it. I just have to prove it by working harder."
Earlier in September last year, Rowoon announced withdrawal from SF9, leading the group to reorganize as an 8-member system. At the time, FNC Entertainment explained that while he would remain as their artist, Rowoon would no longer promote with the group as an idol, but rather focus on his personal endeavors including acting.
In the following month, Rowoon initially talked about his departure and highlighted that he wanted to "be more serious" about his acting career and have "good growth."
However, this answer didn't sit well with fans especially FANTASYs, as there were a lot of idol actors who were "seriously" doing their jobs as actors, on top of being active as K-pop idols.
The group's supporters were also disappointed at the time since they felt like he only used SF9 to gain popularity and left them for his "selfish" motives.
Rowoon received further criticism when he performed with SF9 in a joint concert with FNC artists as fans implied that they felt like he was "rubbing salt to their fresh wounds," just about three months after his withdrawal.
Since then, the male artist has been the center of hateful comments from his previous fans, going as far as mocking his hard work and skills.
Rowoon Recent Activities
Despite that, Rowoon still moved forward, thanks to FANTASYs who decided to support him throughout.
His first work after leaving SF9, "The Matchmakers" is a hit, and the actor also gained rave reviews for his improved acting.
With this, he secured another main character role for the upcoming historical drama, "Murky Water," starring opposite "The Glory" star Shin Ye Eun.
