SISTAR Members Open Up About Forbidden Love at 'Idol Athletics Championships'

Disbanded K-pop girl group SISTAR shared insights into why romance rarely flourishes at the "Idol Athletics Championships."

In a recent episode of the YouTube show "Jjanbro," hosted by entertainer Shin Dong-yeob, former members SOYOU and Kim Dasom shed light on the challenges and realities faced by K-pop stars during the popular sports event.

Kim Dasom addressed the topic of dating rumors during the championships, stating:

"There were always rumors about couples forming during the filming of the 'Idol Athletics Championships.'But honestly, the atmosphere is far from romantic. I mean, fans are watching every one of us through binoculars. How could we even talk to each other? Once you're there, you'd understand-there's no way any romance could blossom."

When asked about the allure of watching male idols compete in sports, SOYOU dismissed the idea, saying:

"I never even looked at them. I was always so tired during filming that I didn't care who ran or who won first place. The only thing I wanted to do was go home."

The conversation also touched on the challenges faced by SISTAR during their participation in the championships. SOYOU revealed:

"We actually faced complaints from other agencies back then. They were like, 'If SISTAR joins, we won't stand a chance at winning first place. Remove SISTAR from the lineup.' So, we even ended up holding a 'retirement ceremony.'"

This controversy stemmed from SISTAR's consistent success in relay races and archery. Despite minimal preparation compared to other teams, SISTAR consistently excelled, leading to resentment from competitors and the need for them to step back from future championships.

Meanwhile, in a recent interview on "Daebak Show with Eric Nam," Hyolyn, the former main vocalist of the legendary girl group SISTAR, addressed the notion that the group wouldn't exist without her.

Hyolyn firmly rejected this idea, emphasizing that SISTAR was a result of the collaboration between the agency and all four members. She stressed that the absence of any member would have prevented the group from forming. Hyolyn's comments highlight the importance of teamwork and the collective effort behind the success of idol groups.
