Teen Vogue is drawing flak for doing something that supposedly disrespects IVE member Gaeul.
On May 21, 2024, Teen Vogue uploaded a video of IVE partaking in the channel's "Compliment Battle" series. During the video, one member faces another and reads aloud compliments from fans to them, in the hopes of getting them to laugh. The ones who laugh lose!
The first pair to take on the challenge was Gaeul and Jang Wonyoung. One tweet that Jang Wonyoung read states, "This song is the superior song; nothing else can get to its level. I love it so much. Also, Gaeul's rap is everything, sorry not sorry, I don't make the rules."
However, it was soon pointed out that the tweet was made on July 4, 2020. IVE debuted in 2021, meaning the tweet was likely not for IVE's Gaeul, but for another idol who shares the same name.
This proved to be true. A quick search proved that the original tweet was praising FAVORITE member Gaeul's rap in the song "Fancy." The group debuted in 2017, and the fan shared the tweet in celebration of the girl group's third anniversary.
This is not the first time a Western media outlet has faced backlash for supposedly disrespecting a member of IVE. Earlier this month, IVE appeared on WIRED's "Answer The Web's Most Search Questions" series. When it was IVE's turn, they used her real name, Kim Ji Won.
It didn't take long for people to realize the questions were not catered towards Liz but for South Korean actress Kim Ji Won.
As this is the second time a Western media outlet failed to do their proper research, DIVEs (IVE's fandom) are understandably upset. They accused Teen Vogue of being lazy and not doing their due diligence. Many stated that their actions show how little they appreciate IVE, with fans expressing their disappointment.

they’re so lazy even to do a little research for IVE, it shows that if they appreciate the girls by doing so but such a disappointing and a little rude to add comments that’s totally not for ive.
While the two idols didn't react to the comment, it is highly likely Jang Wonyoung realized it was not for Gaeul; she could supposedly see the date the tweet was made in the card they provided.
Oh that got me messed up…. And they would know because of the debut date 😐
