Though released in 2020, BTS Suga's (Agust D) solo song "Daechwita" is being compared to the solo song of a YG Entertainment idol.
On May 27, 2024, a post, titled "Was 'Daechwita' concept similar to 'FIANCE'?", was shared with the well-known South Korean online community forum TheQoo.
There, the original poster compared Suga's "Daechwita" with WINNER member Mino's solo song "FIANCE," which was released in 2018.
It was noted that both idols made use of a crazy Korean king/emperor concept. Their outfits were both black with gold accents, and they both had long, blonde hair tied into a ponytail with a black band over their head.
Additionally, both idols were adorned with gold jewelry for the music video.
The original poster noted that some people have claimed they are different because the "FIANCE" music video is primarily held indoors, with the use of a throne room and women in red, long sleeveless dresses.
These women have their eyes covered with red fabric, and their hair is tied in low ponytails.
While "Daecwhita" has some scenes indoors, in what also appears to be a throne room, he also has a lot of scenes outdoors. The throne room in the "Daechwita" music video appears different than the one in the "FIANCE" music video.
Mino's music video makes use of the color red for the room, while Suga's is dark. In his scenes, he is alone, while Mino is surrounded by women.
Despite these differences, Korean netizens believe that the music video does look similar. Some believe that Suga did not copy, but may have referenced "FIANCE" for his work. Korean netizens are saying that it has been changed enough to not be considered a copy.
However, others did not agree. They believed that the music videos for "Daecwhita" and "FIANCE" were almost the same, and wondered why Mino hadn't spoken up on the manner.
They also slammed HYBE for their constant need to copy from others, referencing how their other artists have been exposed for plagiarizing from other artists.
Some comments read:
- "I am not a fan of either artist, but they do look similar. It looks like they referenced it. They just changed the colors, used a blonde wig, and a royal robe, and both have the crazy king concept. If you think they didn't reference it, you'd need to show other music videos that are similar that were released."
- "I think it's an obvious reference. And it was filmed a year and a half after? This is a bit much..."
- "It seems that that company's specialty is 'referencing' and releasing within two years. Just to avoid triggering fans more, I'll say they didn't copy but reference."
- "What kind of group just references endlessly?"
- "It looks the f*cking same to me? Is Song Mino a saint?"
- "Truly a copycat company. They just copy anything that looks good."
