BLACKPINK Was Supposed to Have 9 Members? YG's Shocking Original Plan Revealed

In 2011, YG Entertainment, known for its innovative approach to K-pop, set its sights on creating the next big girl groups in the industry. The company's CEO revealed plans for two distinct groups: the Next Girlgroup (NGG) and the Future 2NE1 (F21), each with its unique style and appeal.

The NGG was envisioned as a charming and talented ensemble, akin to the popular group SNSD but infused with YG's signature style. On the other hand, F21 aimed to embody the bold, girl-crush vibe pioneered by 2NE1, elevating it to a new level.

Initially named "Pink Punk," the NGG project gathered nine talented trainees born between 1994 and 1998. However, due to various challenges, including health issues, personal struggles, and training deficiencies, the group faced delays and setbacks.

Private problems among the members, such as health concerns and personal issues, led to the departure of several trainees. This resulted in a significant reduction in the group's size, eventually culminating in the formation of what we now know as BLACKPINK, consisting of Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa.

Despite the challenges, former Pink Punk members like Miyeon found success in groups like (G)I-DLE, showcasing their talents and gaining recognition in the industry. Others, like Jinny Park and Euna Kim, pursued different paths, participating in survival shows and eventually debuting in new groups.

While F21's debut plans were shelved, YG Entertainment continued its quest for groundbreaking girl groups, leading to the creation of BABYMONSTER, its latest addition to the K-pop scene.

The journey from the ambitious plans of NGG and F21 to the emergence of BLACKPINK and BABYMONSTER underscores the dynamic and ever-evolving landscape of K-pop, where talent, perseverance, and adaptability shape the course of success.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK's contract extension with YG Entertainment has led to a 30% increase in YG's stock prices. Financial experts are optimistic about the company's future, expecting the contract's impact to surpass initial predictions.

While individual contract negotiations continue, BLACKPINK is anticipated to end their hiatus with a new album and live performances in the fourth quarter of 2024, aligning with expected sales boosts in 2025. Fans are eagerly awaiting the group's return.
