2nd-Gen Idol Praises Fans for Eradicating Sasaeng Culture in His Fandom

In the world of K-pop, the relationship between idols and their fans is often intense, but sometimes intrusive.

However, a recent revelation by second-generation idol Junsu has highlighted a refreshing change in this dynamic-his fans' respectful approach to his privacy.

Junsu, formerly part of the iconic group TVXQ and currently active as a solo artist, appeared on Jung Jae Hyung's YouTube series where he discussed how his fans have rallied to protect his personal space.

He shared that his fans have developed an unspoken agreement to maintain his privacy, even during public appearances such as airport visits and personal outings.

This newfound respect allows Junsu to navigate his daily life and travel without feeling intruded upon.

The shift in fan behavior is remarkable, considering the persistent challenge of sasaengs-obsessive fans who invade celebrities' privacy-in the K-pop industry.

"My fans don't even know I went on a trip. Of course, I'm not trying to make it a secret or anything. My fans respect my privacy. Even if they come to the airport, they say, 'Let's not bother Junsu.'"

Junsu attributed this change to the collective effort of his fan community, who understand the negative impact of invasive behavior after witnessing firsthand the difficulties caused by sasaeng fans in the past.

Netizens reacted with admiration and support upon hearing about Junsu's fans' actions.

Comments on various platforms expressed praise for their respectful conduct and highlighted the significance of this cultural shift within the fandom.

  • "Wow, this is how you really love your artist, a relationship based on respect."
  • "They really need to stop following them to and from schedules. That's the only way this will disappear."
  • "I wonder just how hard he must've had it for this type of culture to form. The fans are really amazing."
  • "When he leaves and enters the airport after touring, fans would run away if they saw him at the airport."
  • "It's true. Even if they bump into him by coincidence, they act like they know him...such a rare sight to see."
  • "They really need to stop following them to and from schedules. That's the only way this will disappear."
  • "This is a really good phenomenon."
  • "Wow can't believe fans can change like this, so nice."

Fans have not only refrained from invasive behavior but have also adopted subtle ways to ensure Junsu's privacy.

For instance, they reportedly avoid taking photos or approaching him even if they coincidentally encounter him in public spaces, demonstrating their commitment to respecting his personal boundaries.

Junsu's experience serves as a positive example for other fandoms within the K-pop industry.
