LE SSERAFIM member Kim Chaewon is being accused of having dissed her fans in her latest cover. However, not everyone is convinced that is the case.

On June 18, 2024, Kim Chaewon shared her cover of Ariana Grande's "we can't be friends (wait for your love)" with fans. Soon after the cover was shared online, a post titled "LE SSERAFIM Kim Chaewon's cover song dissing fans" was shared to a South Korean online community forum.

In the post, the author posted stills from Kim Chaewon's cover alongside lyrics in both English and Korean. They claimed that the lyrics of the song were meant to be a subtle jab toward fans who turned their back against LE SSERAFIM amid their numerous scandals.

They wrote, "Is she asking us to bury their recent scandals and like her again? The members seriously keep fighting their fans."

Korean netizens rushed to the comments to defend Kim Chaewon. They claimed that this was a reach and that the author was reading too much into the cover. Others pointed out that the song is about a break-up, and slammed the author for internationally removing the part where she sings the chorus.

Some comments read,

• "The weirdos on this site always say girl group idols are attacking them LOL. Why do you think so highly of yourself? Why do you think female celebrities, who are living their best lives, would take time out of their day to attack you? They probably care less about you as if you were a bug. You guys act out way too much."
• "Wow, this is a crazy reach. It's actually hilarious."
• "You just don't like anything Kim Chaewon does."
• "Can't we just listen to the song without reading into it?"
• "This is a huge reach."
• "This is a break-up song. Why did you take out the part where she sings 'We can't be friends'? And then you bring this sh*t here and claim she's attacking you. Seriously, you are delusional LOL."

Previously, LE SSERAFIM garnered backlash for their Coachella performances in April. While their stage presence and charisma were praised by international media outlets, Korean netizens flamed them for their shaky, unstable vocals, as well as how they seemed to lose energy by the end of the performance.

Amid the criticism, Kim Chaewon earned major backlash for sharing a photo of Doja Cat, who was also performing at Coachella. In the photo, Doja Cat can be seen flipping her middle finger. Netizens claimed the idol posted this as her silent response to the backlash.

After being called out, Kim Chaewon took down the post from her Story.
