NCT Renjun Apologizes After Leaking Individual's Number — K-Netz Not Impressed

Following SM Entertainment's statement, NCT's Renjun has issued his own apology via Instagram after leaking somebody's number.

On June 20, Renjun took to Bubble to leak an individual's phone number, claiming they were a sasaeng and "exposing" them. Soon after, the individual was bombarded with calls and malicious texts, forcing them to report the situation to the police.

In a statement made to X (Twitter), they revealed that they had accidentally called Renjun after trying to contact a friend. They had the number saved to their phone, meaning it was likely their friend had given them the number.

After the individual reported the situation to the police, SM Entertainment released a statement on June 21. They apologized to the victim and asked fans not to contact them further.

They also apologized on Renjun's behalf, stating that they contacted the investigation officer to relay their sincerity. The company stated that Renjun was reflecting on his actions, and apologized for not properly managing their artists.

That same day, Renjun issued an apology through his Instagram. In his apology, he acknowledged his behaviour, stating that his judgement was clouded and that he made a mistake.

He apologized to the victim and asked his fans to stop calling them. He stated he was reflecting on his actions and promises fans that he will do his best to make sure it doesn't happen again.

His statement reads,

"I apologize to the person who was harmed by my thoughtless actions yesterday. I always wanted to bring positive energy through my music and performances, but my judgment was severely clouded in the moment, and I think I made a huge mistake. I would like to apologize to the individual who was hurt and affected because of me. My careless actions have caused suffering to the victim. Please stop contacting them. I am deeply reflecting on my actions and will be more cautious to prevent such hasty behavior in the future. I apologize once again to everyone who was hurt because of me."

However, Korean netizens were not impressed with the idol's apology. They claimed it was half-hearted, and did little to calm the backlash the individual received. They also slammed the idol for not admitting that the number they leaked did not belong to a sasaeng.

Some comments read,

"His apology should have had more sincerity, and he should pay for the damages he caused. He also should have said that they aren't a sasaeng, that he made a mistake, and the person was a victim. I can't believe his fans are defending him."

"Why didn't you say the person wasn't a sasaeng? I have seen some people say horrible things about the victim."

"The victim should be the one to decide if he has learned his lesson or not."

"I can't believe there are people who think he doesn't need to apologize."

"You should have said that they weren't a sasaeng. That's the most important part."
