The year 2024 is currently halfway through its course, with June nearly wrapping up. While there were many joyous moments in the K-pop industry and community, fans are also heartbroken over the several disbandment news that transpired this year.
Here are 5 K-pop groups who disbanded this 2024 so far
1. Weki Meki (Debuted on August 8, 2017)
Weki Meki's disbandment was heartbreaking for the K-pop community. Earlier on June 6, Korean news outlets shared that the group would disband after releasing their final digital single "CoinciDestiny" on June 12.
Fantagio also released a brief statement confirming the disbandment, "It is true that this will be Weki Meki's farewell."
When the music for "CoinciDestiny" was finally released, fans were enraged towards Fantagio for the MV's quality and expressed how unfair it was to see Weki Meki being sent off with a low-budget music video.
2. Cherry Bullet (Debuted on January 21, 2019)
On April 22, Cherry Bullet's disbandment was announced by FNC Entertainment. Additionally, four members chose to end their exclusive contracts with the agency, while three members maintained their contracts and promoted their activities under FNC.
"After a long period of deliberation and discussion, we and the members of our artist Cherry Bullet. Haeyoon, Yuju, Bora, Jiwon, Remy, Chaerin, and Mei, are officially ending their group activities as of today.
Haeyoon, Jiwon, Remi, and Mei have decided to terminate their contracts, while Yuju, Bora, and Chaerin will continue their individual activities as artists affiliated with FNC Entertainment."
"We would like to express our sincere apologies for the sudden news to all the fans who have been cherishing Cherry Bullet for so long."
3. XEED (Debuted on December 1, 2022)
XEED also disbanded on March 22, according to agency Nature Space.
"First of all, we would like to thank all the fans who have given us so much love for XEED, and we would like to share the sad news.
XEED's activities, which have been working hard since their debut with the love of their fans, have been decided to end on April 8th after a long discussion with the members."
4. NATURE (Debuted on August 3, 2018)
NATURE's agency n.CH Entertainment announced the girl group's disbandment on April 26. The statement expressed gratitude to all the fans who supported NATURE and that the decision to disband was concluded after in-depth discussions between the members and staff.
5. TFN (Debuted on January 11, 2021)
On February 29, agency MLD Entertainment officially confirmed the reports regarding the disbandment of TFN. The company shared, "It is correct that the exclusive contracts and group activities of TFN have ended."
