SHINee Key fatphobic? Shawols have mixed reactions after Key said THIS to his "I Live Alone" co-MC Park Narae.
On June 23, an internet user, who is apparently a Shawol (SHINee fan), took to X to express disappointment after watching a recent episode of MBC's "I Live Alone."
In the snippet, Park Narae, who shared her weight loss journey, decided to go on a cheat day and enjoy palatable dishes after shopping.
In the video, the cast members were seen watching and making reactions to Narae when the comedienne made a comment:
"Can diet food be this good?"
The episode was supposed to be wholesome and encouraging to other plus-size viewers going through the same journey as Narae, but it became quite problematic when the other hosts made fun of her.
Jun Hyun Moo then teased her by "correcting" her.
"More like, 'Are you allowed to eat this much?"

Drawing waves of laughter from the whole studio, Key added:
"No wonder you're not losing any more weight."
This scene belatedly sparked a heated discussion when the OP wrote:
"This is not funny?"
The post earned attention from numerous Shawols, and seeing the video led them to have mixed reactions.
Just by watching this scene, some fans claimed that this was Key blatantly being fatphobic, and felt hurt since he also has plus-size fans.
When some netizens called them "haters," they clarified that they were not "hating" but rather "educating" since SHINee is a group with a huge global reach; thus, they have to be careful with the words that they are using.
Here are some of the posts from fans:
Can't believe I'm saying this abt a grown man but he needs to remember how big his intl audience is meaning how diverse the fandom is, he always has a problem w what comes out of that mouth omg

Same, it's because he said something in the past. It's why I don't really praise him as much as I do the other members

He's also the guy who bodyshamed Nicole from Kara, making her feel so bad she had to diet. Key Kibum from Shinee loves to bodyshame women so this isn't surprising https://t.co/y61FrLiF8z pic.twitter.com/IAGV5hs9Nk

All you people do is keep things under wraps so he won't get rightfully called out for doing gross things and thats why shit never gets done in this fandom like what the fuck is yalls problem

On the other hand, some still jumped to Key's defense and criticized those who hate on Key without knowing the whole context. They explained that the official translation was written too directly as if Key was the one calling out Park Narae for not losing weight.
Ppl need to stop taking translations literal like did u even hear the context? Plus the translation is off he didn’t even mean it in that way lol yall just hate him and look for a chance to hate on him for whatever he does

The speaker remembers something happening in the past. With no context his sentence could also be referring to himself but that’s up for interpretation we can assume he’s referencing her saying it before. It’s hard to translate cuz it could also mean I experienced something+

In the past and I’m telling you about it. So the translation they used in the video is too direct and looses that meaning of Kibum recalling something that happened/he heard in the past.

He’s referring to complains that she herself made, I think it’s more in emphathy as to common struggles ANYONE has when dieting, including himself but of cos ppl wanna take it in that manner

However, listening to his remark in Korean, he said this while implying that Narae said this to herself before, and he was reminded of what she said in the past.
Another fan emphasized that in the same episode, Key was actually the one who was encouraging Narae to embrace her figure.
in the same ep kibum told narae that she should be proud when she wore red bikini becuz it gave ppl who wear those sizes hope as it encourages ppl to buy more medium and larges from the shop. People don't even at least watch the whole ep but so fast on taking literal translation+ https://t.co/zv2gGITKPb
