The 21-year-old J-pop singer Ado, who also voiced Uta of "One Piece Film: Red," announced that she will be holding a handshake event.

While her identity remains a mystery, how will she do it? At the same time, fans are upset because of THIS.

On June 20, Ado announced that she would be having her first-ever handshake event in partnership with Universal Music Japan. This is one of the promotions she will be doing to commemorate the release of her upcoming second mini-album, "Zanmu," on July 10.

Ado's first entry into the music scene was as an "utaite," or a singer who covers other artists' songs (commonly of anime, games, etc.), at the age of 14.

With her incredible skills and rising fame, Ado made her official debut in 2020 with her own song, "Usseewa," which became a major hit in Japan and overseas.

In 2021, she hit the No. 1 spot on Billboard Japan's Hot 100 with the same song.

Her career skyrocketed rapidly as she released her next songs "Odo" and "Yoru No Pierrot" in the same year.

She would then reach her "heyday" after she was chosen to become the singing voice of Uta, a character for the 2022 film "One Piece Film: Red."

At the time, Ado released the album, "Uta's Songs: One Piece Film Red," which also contains the hit theme song, "New Genesis."

In 2023, she also had a feature collaboration with the K-pop group LE SSERAFIM x Nile Rodgers during the release of the Japanese version of their song, "UNFORGIVEN."

Also, she is the voice behind, "SPY x FAMILY" Season 2's opening theme, "Kura Kura."

Despite these achievements, she has never shown her real face in public; thus, when fans heard about her handshake event, they were confused if Ado is going to finally reveal her identity, which remains hidden since her debut in 2017.

The answer is NO.

Apparently, she will still be hiding her face during the event by being inside a giant box. Fans will step forward one by one and insert their forearm inside a hole and the materials will be making sure that fans can't peek or catch a glimpse of the idol — NOT EVEN HER HAND.

According to UMJ, only 1000 fans divided into two groups will be given this opportunity, and what they have to do is purchase a "Zanmu" album copy.

The buyer will get a serial number to enter the lottery. They can win either of the three prizes, including a ticket to the handshake event, a ticket to her Yokohama concert, or personalized autographed posters.

When fans learned about this announcement, they expressed disappointment and frustration as to why she's still not showing her face even after all these years. Some even called her and UMJ a scam.

As fans can't see even her hands, some people are skeptical if Ado's hands would really be in it or a mechanical hand. They are also mocking this setup and making fun of her.

"I don’t understand, how does she have a concert and NOT show her face? Does she wear a mask the entire time?

So, it could be any random person, or even a mechanical hand/arm for all anyone knows? then what is anyone actually paying for? Talk about a scam for s*ckers."

However, others are delighted that Ado's sticking to her concept of not showing her face as she doesn't have to wear any fancy clothes and makeup.

This way, her fans won't probe too much into her appearance and personal life, making them focus on pure talents alone.

  • "The real scam are those paying really big bucks to see some of the most popular singers in the west and popular boy and girl groups that the instant the auto tune cuts out they sound like a dying cat! Ado's style means auto tune isn't an option because going off key, screams, vocal flips random sounds are all part of her singing, auto tune would actually be a detriment!"
  • "...No need for her to have skimpy clothing, 100+ cosmetic surgeries, etc.... just incredible vocal talent!"
