The recent Instagram posts of PENTAGON member Hongseok has sparked concern over what transpired between the members.
On June 23, 2024, Hongseok held a question-and-answer (Q&A) through his Instagram Stories. As he took his time answering each other, several fans asked him about his relationship with the other PENTAGON members. However, it was his response to questions concerns Yuto and Yan An that had fans considered.
One fan had asked Hongseok if Yuto had unblocked on him on social media. Hongseok revealed that he was still blocked by his co-PENTAGON member.
Back in December 2023, Hongseok revealed that Yuto blocked all the members on social media after he left Korea. This is around October 2023, after it was announced by Cube Entertainment that he and several members of PENTAGON opted to not renew their contract with the agency. At the time, the company stated that PENTAGON was not disbanded.
In another question, a fan asked Hongseok to talk about Yan An. Yan An is the group's only Chinese member. Ever since late 2019, Yan An's participation in PENTAGON's comebacks were sporadic due to his health. In fact, until September 17, 2020, Yan An had been on hiatus for over 440 days. In 2022, he once again went on a hiatus and returned to China.
He was one of the members Cube Entertainment revealed had chosen not to renew his contract with the label.
In Hongseok's response, he revealed that he wishes he could talk about Yan An more, but he was concerned about how the other members of PENTAGON think of him. He added that it is not easy for him to talk about Yan An because whatever he says will cause his fans to pick sides.
His statement immediately sparked concern among the group's fan base. Many were under the impression that despite the members going their seperate ways, they were still close. It was even speculated that the members were consistently meeting so that they could prepare for a comeback outside of Cube Entertainment.
However, Hongseok's statement has sparked doubt amongst Universe (PENTAGON fandom name). Many believe Yan An will likely not return to South Korea due to his booming career in China. Yuto is also believed to not return, as he debuted as a soloist in Japan.
