BLACKPINK Jisoo Raises Brows as Dior Global Ambassador — Why Is Her Image on Brink of Being Tarnished?

Amid being lauded for her royalty-like visuals at the recent Dior Fashion Show, BLACKPINK Jisoo raised her brows for THIS reason.

On June 24 (local time), BLACKPINK Jisoo attended the Dior Fashion Show in Paris, France, representing the luxury brand as its global ambassador.

On that day, she truly became the main event with her medieval princess-like appearance, which became a hot topic among domestic and international fans.

  • "She's a real-life princess."
  • "Her outfit is like armor and princess dress combined, she's so pretty."

But among the pool of praises she received, there are also tons of netizens who wrote criticisms about her.

  •  “Now when I look at a Dior bag, only 80,000 won ($57) comes to mind."

When fans, especially BLINKs (BLACKPINK fandom), saw this, they were confused as to why Jisoo was being criticized. Netizens immediately explained that it was due to Dior's controversy of labor exploitation, also known as the "80,000 won" scandal.

This topic sparked debate among K-pop fans when reports revealed that the manufacturing cost of a Dior bag only costs 80,000 KRW (about  $57).

Based on reports, the Milan court in Italy ordered the bag manufacturer of LVMH Dior Italy to be supervised by a judicial administrator for one year. This came after the company was accused of neglecting and encouraging labor exploitation by its subcontractors based in China, which is also accused of being a sweatshop company.

The Chinese subcontractor was reported to be requiring some employees to work 15-hour shifts and from $57, the bags were labeled Dior and were being sold for 3.86 million won ($2.78k).

With the intensifying issue, Jisoo, who is the luxury house's global ambassador, is also being criticized for allegedly abetting brands that encourage labor exploitation as well as tricking its loyal consumers into that the "luxury" bags were carefully handcrafted by artisans.

As of the moment, Jisoo's side is yet to make a comment about it, raising expectations of what will be her next step to avoid her name from being tarnished.

Meanwhile, fans' eyes are focused on her path as an actress and soloist.

After renewing the contract for group activities with YG Entertainment, Jisoo announced that she will be starting anew under BLISSOO, a label founded by her older brother's health functional food brand for infants and toddlers.

Under her new agency, the idol is raising anticipation for her upcoming Coupang Play drama, "Influenza," as well as the much-awaited live-action adaptation movie of the webtoon, "Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint."
