After the conflict with Woo Jiyoon, Ahn Ji Young revealed the reason she still uses the name BOL4 to promote herself as a solo artist.
In a recent interview with Star News, BOL4's Ahn Ji Young faced the media to commemorate her 10th debut anniversary.
Here, she then looked back on her glorious activities and addressed some controversies circulating the name BOL4.
For those who don't know her, Ahn Ji Young is a popular singer who debuted as Bolballgan sachungi (puberty), also known as BOL4.
The duo was first formed in 2014, but they officially debuted in the K-pop scene in 2016 under Shofar Music. Since then, they released hits such as "Some," "To My Youth," "Galaxy" and more.
While they were enjoying immense fame, Woo Jiyoon shocked K-pop fans when she suddenly left the duo in 2020 and expressed her desire to debut as a soloist.

At the time, rumors arose that she was mistreated and forced to become a backup singer and guitarist, instead of having equal opportunities and lines as Ji Young, who is the main vocalist of the duo.
Woo also hinted at the ill relationship she has with her former co-member, implying that it was Ji Young who wanted her to leave quickly. Ji Young refuted this and called out Woo to talk to her personally if she had something to say.
Since then, little to no information about the progress in their relationship was reported. Currently, Jiyoon goes by the stage name Odd Child, while Ji Young continues to use BOL4.
Regarding this, Ahn explained:
"Like other bands, the band name 'Bolbbalgan Puberty' has a meaning. It was a name created with the idea that 'no matter when and how puberty comes, I want to sympathize with and comfort you through puberty.'
I think people understand this meaning in their hearts, so I thought there was no need to change the name, which is precious to me and the people who listen to it, just because it became a one-person system."
When asked if she had ever thought of promoting under her real name, BOL4 refuted this and answered:
"The name 'Bol4' holds meaning for each person who loves music, so I think many people would be disappointed if I were to promote as 'Ahn Ji Young'.
Living as Ahn Ji Young of ‘Bolbbalgan4’ is much more valuable to me than making music. But to be honest, I’m actually surprised that the public knows my name."
On the other hand, to celebrate her decade in the music scene, BOL4 released its single, "Lips" (feat. aespa Giselle) on June 13. It is a summer song that depicts the message of yearning feelings for the person you like.
Giselle then added spice to the song by participating in featuring and rap-making.
