Earlier on June 28, Lisa of BLACKPINK finally released her first English digital single "ROCKSTAR." The single also marks her first-ever comeback in her solo career and her first-ever release under her independent agency LLOUD.
As of July 5, the music video for "ROCKSTAR" currently garners around 76 million views on YouTube, emphasizing Lisa's overwhelming popularity and her fandom's sheer streaming power. It also shows how highly anticipated her comeback was among fans.
However, netizens vented on social media platform X (Twitter) about the song's lack of exposure.
On the app, many voiced out how disappointed they were with LLOUD's promotions for the song. Some even recalled her "rushed" promotions for debut track "LALISA" during her time at YG Entertainment and pointed out the lack of improvement despite moving out from the agency.
Several fan pages dedicated to the BLACKPINK member also suggested alternative methods in order to amplify the exposure for "ROCKSTAR." This includes engaging Lisa in interviews, stages, and many more promotional activities to increase the comeback's buzz.
In other news, K-media has expressed its take on Lisa's impact with her comeback. According to sources, outlets reported that "ROCKSTAR" only took the No. 1 spot on the iTunes Top Song Chart in Thailand, but performed averagely on MelOn's Top 10 in Korea.
The song was then compared to her debut song "LALISA," which dominated in the Top Song Charts across 72 countries in 2021.
News outlet Sports Seoul reported that Korean netizens weren't satisfied since the comeback emphasized Lisa's roots in Thailand, rather than taking her exposure in South Korea.
"The music video for 'ROCKSTAR' on YouTube received supportive comments from Thai fans. Some of the comments read, 'I'm proud to be a Thai,' 'Lisa is the Thai people's pride' and 'She showed the world that Thais can achieve their dreams."
However, it was a little disappointing for the Korean fans who supported Lisa and established her as a member of the world-class girl group BLACKPINK."
"There was a clash between the opinion that it was a K-pop release since it was released by a K-pop star and the other opinion stating that it was Thai pop because it was released by a Thai artist. However, on YouTube, the opinion of it being Thai pop is weighing more."
