(G)I-DLE Shuhua Called Out For Constant Controversies Over Offensive Statements — Is She Hurting The Group?

With several controveries concerning inappropriate statements, K-netz are wondering if Shuhua is doing (G)I-DLE more harm than good.

When introducing the title song "Klaxon" from their new album, (G)I-DLE's Shuhua sparked controversy with her bold statement. She proudly declared, "Sorry other idols, because this summer the people will only listen to (G)I-DLE's music." The other members quickly dismissed it as a joke, waving their hands to downplay the comment.

(G)I-DLE's new song, filled with summer vibes, was expected to become a major hit like their previous hits. However, "Klaxon" struggled upon release. After one day, it failed to enter the top 20 music charts in Korea. Despite having a high number of playlists comparable to other popular 4th-generation groups, "Klaxon" only amassed 338,573 listens. Additionally, (G)I-DLE did not feature on Spotify's global artist chart on the launch day of their new track.

This underperformance made Shuhua's statement seem even more ironic, leading to criticism from the audience who found her remarks arrogant.

Many viewers criticized the female idol, dubbed her as a "short-brained beauty" whose comments often negatively impact the group despite her visuals. Shuhua has been accused of being too brash and having a low EQ in her interactions with fans. Her comments frequently trend on Weibo due to their humorous yet annoying nature.

For example, when a fan mentioned they were getting married and asked for her blessing, Shuhua didn't give her blessings. Instead, she sarcastically responded with, "Okay, then I hope you don't get divorced too soon," and laughed.

When another fan commented on her Instagram, "Shuhua, I'm out of money, can you lend it to me?" Shuhua shockingly replied, "Should we burn it for you?" This was controversial, as in Chinese culture, people only burn money for the dead.

At the 2022 Melon Music Awards, (G)I-DLE was nominated for the Song of the Year award, which ultimately went to IVE. Shuhua drew attention by confidently stating before the award show that she "came to receive the Daesang," referring to an important Korean music award.

Although Shuhua is known for her beautiful appearance and stage presence, she has been criticized for her weak vocal abilities. She has been described "tone-deaf" and "singing out of breath" by Korean netizens on several occasions. Despite debuting in 2018, her singing skills remain a point of criticism.

Despite the negative reception, however, some comments defended Shuhua, noting that she has endured many malicious comments. Observers pointed out that netizens are often amused by male idols' joking in a similar way to Shuhua but react negatively when a female idol makes similar remarks.
