From being the idol trainee who obtained about 50 million views for a song cover, THIS 5th-gen star is gaining unexpected hate despite receiving much love before her debut.
BABYMONSTER, YG Entertainment's rookie girl group, shows strong potential in the K-pop industry. Just three months after its release, its debut track, "SHEESH," garnered over 200 M views.
They obtained high popularity despite being rookies due to their title as "BLACKPINK's younger sister." They also proved their high-level skills through their monthly evaluation stages uploaded on their official YouTube channel.
Among the seven members, Ahyeon is the most loved and popular, especially when her cover of Charlie Puth's "Dangerously" went viral on SNS among K-pop supporters.
In the video, she showed off excellent vocals that could reach falsettos without much effort and was lauded for her professionalism, though she is only an ordinary trainee. As of this writing, the song cover video has reached 48 million views, and many were undoubtedly mesmerized by her singing skills.
At the time, she only gained rave reviews such as:
- "This is seriously crazy. I don't know how many times I've listened to it. It's new every time I listen to it."
- "Apart from the fact that she's good at singing, she has crazy star quality."
- "A legendary talent in the idol world has appeared."
- "All I can say is that she's crazy. She's crazy talented."

Moreover, her visuals also became a hot topic, with K-pop enthusiasts highlighting her resemblance with top-tier stars such as BLACKPINK Jennie, LE SSERAFIM Yunjin, and actress Kim Jiwon.
The high level of recognition that Ahyeon built truly contributed to BABYMONSTER. When it was initially announced that she would leave the debuting lineup, domestic and international fans complained and protested. As a result, the group waited for her to recover her health and re-debut in April 2024.
Unfortunately, the table was turned upside down. From being most loved, Ahyeon has been receiving an absurd amount of hate after her debut.
The reason was that she "stands out too much." Because of her high pitch tone and energetic dancing, some fans criticized her for overshadowing the members and called her out for being "too over-acting."
Since she's in a group, some fans want her to minimize it and match her group's energy and image.
Until recently, Ahyeon drew attention as it was noticeable how she toned down her high energy when performing and singing, with fans speculating that she's already aware of the hateful comments she's getting.
