In a new development regarding IU's lawsuit, the accuser has reportedly failed to show up on the first trial. Korean media has also shared the details and reason for the accuser's absence.
Earlier on May 10, 2023, EDAM Entertainment released an official statement announcing strong legal action against malicious claims targeting IU. According to a report from Maeil Kyungjae, police authorities disclosed that an anonymous individual had filed a complaint against IU.
The complaint involved accusations claiming that the singer had violated the copyright law and that the artist's six songs "Good Day," "BBI BBI," "The red shoes, "Celebrity," "Boo," and "pitiful" were plagiarized. This prompted EDAM Entertainment to take legal procedures.
"The act of defaming the reputation of an artist through malicious posts and groundless information is illegal. These criminal acts are punishable by law. The company aims to take strong legal action without hesitation against these actions that attack our artist's character."
"The instigators of malicious information will be tracked down and we will do everything we can to protect our artist's rights. No leniency or settlement will be present during this legal process."
"We kindly ask fans for their cooperation by sending any posts or rumors that infringe our artist's rights in our official email."
On September 4, 2023, EDAM Entertainment announced that the criminal allegations were dismissed. The company made it clear that IU did not participate in composing the songs. On the other hand, the lawsuit against the accuser continued.
"In conclusion, the criminal accusations against our artist were dismissed by the investigative agency earlier on August 24. The decision was made on the grounds that it did not constitute a crime, and we received the investigation results on August 30."
"Our artist never participated during the composition of the five songs mentioned in the allegation, including the one song the accuser took issue with. Since the artist didn't take part, she cannot be a party to a dispute revolving around copyright infringement."
On July 24, the Seoul Central District Court held the lawsuit's first trial, which included IU's legal representative. However, sources stated that the accuser had failed to attend the trial and that no legal representative from them had attended.
It was also revealed that IU's lawyer had requested the personal information of the accuser referred to as "Mr. A," who is believed to be residing in the United States. Reports then revealed that the processing time for this request was authorized by the court and that it would take three to four months.
The judiciary then remarked that once the personal details of the accuser were identified and confirmed, a new trial would be held.
