EXO Chen Selects 3rd-Gen Vocalist He Wanted to Work With: 'He's My #1 Priority'

Among numerous star-studded singers, EXO Chen revealed that THIS idol vocalist is who he wants to make a collab the most.

On August 3, the Korean fashion magazine @Style released its interview with EXO Chen to commemorate the release of its 4th mini-album, "DOOR" in May.

Aside from it being his first release in 1 year and 6 months, this album became more special as it comprised tracks he personally worked with as a solo artist along with the help of his co-EXO member and INB label's CEO, Byun Baekhyun.

As it is his first album after leaving SM Entertainment, Chen confessed his true feelings and said:

"In some ways, this album can be considered a turning point in my life. It was my first work with my employees under a new label, and the entire process from filming to recording the album was enjoyable and satisfying.

I once read this phrase, 'Enjoying the process, not the result, is true happiness.' I worked on this album with this phrase deeply in my heart, so I really enjoyed it. I'm grateful and proud that this album has come out into the world."

The album, "DOOR" comprises six tracks which is an invitation to "open" it for fans who need comfort. If he will give it a rate to express his satisfaction level, Chen will give it 100 points, explaining:

"I’ve been preparing this album since last February, and I worked on it while questioning myself a lot. It’s an album filled with countless worries and self-reflection. Because I made it while clearly understanding who I am, I have no regrets and was satisfied when it came out."

While talking, Chen was then asked about the singer that he wanted to collaborate with, regardless of the genre. Without hesitation, he named N. Flying Yoo Hweseung.

Hweseung debuted in 2017 after being an additional member of the boy band N.Flying. Although he is a rookie, he took on the role of the group's main vocalist and he didn't disappoint.

The junior vocalist further established his name as a singer after winning in "King of Masked Singer" and "Immortal Songs 2." He was also well-known for his excellent collab release, "Still Love You" with Lee Hong Gi.

Regarding the main reason he selected him, Chen stated:

"N.Flying (Yoo) Hweseung. He was on a YouTube channel a while ago. I appeared in a show where we sang a duet with a wall in the middle without knowing each other's faces.

I thought our chemistry was really good even though we were singing without seeing each other at all, but it turned out to be Hweseung. As soon as filming ended, I told Hweseung, 'Let's definitely work together.' He's my number one priority right now (laughs)."

Earlier in May, Chen and Hweseung appeared as special guests for the YouTube channel, hello82 for its new segment, "Secret Duet" Episode 1. Here, they performed a cover of "Ghost Town" by Benson Boone, flaunting oozing vocal chemistry without a prior meeting.
