Taemin has officially clarified that he will not be delving into the clothing business, following a series of online posts regarding limited edition T-shirts.
On August 22, netizens established a forum titled, "The Clothing Line Issue That Taemin Is Involved In And His IG Post." The author uploaded a tweet from August 21, which showed a lucky draw event from TAEM.
"For exhibition visitors. During the lucky draw, a T-shirt made by Taemin will be given away (9 people will be selected daily)
Please check the image for details!"
"It is said that, as part of the exhibition event, Taemin's custom-designed T-shirts will be given away to 9 people by lottery every day," OP shared. The author also revealed fans who received the shirts, while also revealing the now-deleted official Instagram account for the brand.
"I won Taemin's lucky draw. I did it? I even got a hat."
"There were fans who received it in real time (They gave a QR code leading to a website)."
"The account only follows Taemin."
(The account has been removed now)
"There was also a website but you can't enter it anymore. Meanwhile, international fans went to the English site and found the clothes and their prices and uploaded them."
"The KakaoTalk page is still working."
Ultimately, many fans speculated that Taemin would start his own clothing brand.
However, on August 22, Taemin uploaded a post on his Instagram Stories, clarifying that he would not be launching a clothing business. The idol also shared that he only made the clothes as gifts for fans. Taemin also apologized for the misunderstanding.
"I'm not in the clothing business! I made these clothes with the intention of giving them as gifts to those I'm thankful for. Not sell them. I'm sorry it caused misunderstandings. I will always show you my humble and hardworking side. Thank you for your constant support."
Here's how international fans reacted to the topic:
- "This just looks like merch. Everyone is selling merch, since he is in a small company, he needs to create his website. What's the fuss about?
- "TAEM" is a dope name for a brand and the logo looks cool too."
- "He should do whatever he wants; as long as it's legal, I don't see any problem."
In other news, Taemin appeared on the September 2024 issue cover for ELLE Korea's digital edition, "ELLE D Edition," on August 20. During the interview, Taemin revealed that SHINee almost disbanded in 2018. He also expounded on the group's resilience through the years.
The "MOVE" singer elaborated:
"(The proudest moment I have) is the path I have walked with my members. We have been through so much that if you ask me to do it again right from the start, I won't have the confidence to do so.
During our discussion of disbandment in 2018, we have really moved forward this far and we never gave up. It's a good thing that we kept going."
