NMIXX's 'See That?' Harshly Receives 1-Star Rating From Music Critic + NSWERs Divided Over Review

NMIXX has received a scathing review of their newest title track "See That?" The review criticized certain aspects of the song, which also led to divided reactions from fans.

Earlier on August 19, NMIXX finally released their third mini album "Fe304: STICK OUT" and its title track "See That?"

However, on August 27, South Korean music site critic IZM released a review of the song, and rated the track one out of five stars. The review's author Jung Gi Yeop majorly points out how "See That?" took back what "Dash" did for NMIXX.

"NMIXX's color seemed to have been established with the release of 'Dash,' but it has now become ambiguous once again. The song mashes hip-hop with fairytale-like melodies, but it encounters turbulence rather than synergy that forges its strengths."

The author also stated that the song's bass line was a throwback to Seo Taiji's "Comeback Home," and that factor led to predictable results.

The track was also called out for being "too safe" and that the group's mix-pop had lost its substance, instead of being a harbinger of fresh musical innovation. "Compared to their previous release that matched them well, this song felt unnatural," the critic stated.

Jung Gi Yeop then mentioned that NMIXX has "regressed" despite its gradual success in 2023. The critic also said that NMIXX's "O.O" and "See That?" were similar in their "unfamiliarity."

"It's a shame that the song doesn't compliment the individual skills of NMIXX. It is also imperative to know that an easy and comprehensible approach is more needed rather than a puzzling route."

In a community forum, fans expressed divided opinions on the review. Some claimed that the criticism was on point, while others had differing takes on NMIXX's new song and musical direction. Read their comments below:

  • "Dash" was so good that this song felt a bit underwhelming, but it's getting more addictive."
  • "They went from easy listening with a hint of NMIXX like 'Dash' and 'Run For Roses' then back again to unlistenable NMIXX like their debut song."
  • "Me too. Honestly, I felt like 'Dash' was legendary, so 'See That?' felt like a letdown. They should've released 'See That?' first and 'Dash' after."
  • "I honestly don't understand JYP's direction for them."
  • "I like 'See That?' though."
  • "To my ears, the song is just okay."
  • "I liked it, I watched all the stages."
  • "I don't care about what critics have to say."
  • "I have to completely agree. They received good reactions from both sides of the pond with 'Dash' as it wasn't jarring and it seemed like a sound and concept they could claim and do well with."
  • "It's not terrible, but man did it feel like it went on forever. 'Dash' and 'Run For Roses' were good."
