After initially disbanding, THIS 3rd-gen girl group self-funded themselves to reunite with the 2024 version of their most popular song.
FIESTAR, comprised of Jei, Linzy, Yezi, Hyemi, and Cao Lu, made their much-awaited reunion after six years, excluding former member Cheska.
On Aug. 31st, the hereinafter quintet released the 2024 version of "You're Pitiful" through various music platforms including YouTube.
The song is the remake of their representative song that was originally released in 2015 under their first mini-album, "BLACK LABEL."
To cater to both their fans in Korea and China, the team prepared its Korean and Chinese versions.
Contrary to the original song released nine years ago, the 2024 version added modern and fresh sound by combining UK garage and lazy pop genre elements while preserving its signature vague and emotional feeling.
In the official MV, the members prepared a simple yet powerful dance video that flaunts their unchanging dance skills and visuals.
Meanwhile, FIESTAR debuted in 2012 but in 2018, the team officially disbanded after inactivity. During their 12th debut anniversary this year, the group worked on the song, revealing that Cao Lu was the person behind why the team was able to reunite.
In May, she revealed that she bought the copyright of the song using her own savings. After re-writing the lyrics, the group funded themselves to re-record the track in both Korean and Chinese versions, leading to their reunion.
In celebration of their 12th debut anniversary, FIESTAR plans to do various activities, and Cao Lu also hinted at her desire to win a music show win trophy, which they never had during their active days.
Following its release, the MV has over 118k views after uploading on the YouTube channel, SUPER SOUND Bugs! In the comment, the quintet received rave reviews such as:
- "This is the old K-pop that I missed so much. I sincerely hope this song goes viral and gets more recognition."
- "I love this song. FIESTAR! Cao Lu! Fighting! I'm really happy and touched to see them working as a team again."
- "The return of FIESTAR and older K-pop groups is what we needed for real."
Aside from K-pop stans, IU, their former labelmate under LOEN Entertainment, cheered the girl group by posting a photo of herself streaming the song. She also wrote, "FIESTAR is back!"
Since their debut, the soloist has been consistent in supporting the group. Hyemi recalled:
"IU promoted FIESTAR a lot in the past. We were trainees together. We became close while living together in a 1,965-2 197 m2 apartment.
IU (also) gave me a luxury bag as a gift to celebrate my first paycheck. Even though it wasn’t a lot of money, she gave gifts to everyone around her. She’s really a very loyal friend."
