UNIS Gehlee Dangca garnered unpleasant comments from netizens, who described the Filipina K-pop idol as "cringe" for THIS reason.
Following UNIS's comeback with "CURIOUS" on the 6th of last month, Gehlee Dangca quickly trended on SNS for her top-tier visuals.
Her princess-like beauty was widely praised by K-pop fans, and the K-media seemed to admire the rookie idol as well by sharing her performances' fancams and pre-music show arrival videos through social media.
In these videos, the idol showcases her elegance by often walking slowly to seize the moment, and appreciation to her fans by taking her sweet time to interact with them. Gehlee is also popular for her "sleepy eyes" that resemble a doll, not to mention her flaxen hair and model-like height.
However, alongside the praises from the K-pop community, Gehlee also received unpleasant comments for her facial expression and gestures, with plenty of online users calling her "cringe" and a "pick me."
On Tiktok, these netizens joined forces to hate on young star, and accused her of faking her aura. Some also nicknamed her as the "cheap dupe" of IVE Jang Wonyoung.
- "I love her and UNIS, but Gehlee girl... the facial expression."
- "I find her ugly... don't come after me."
- "Every teenager has main character syndrome please."
- "Not the main character, but like a side character who wants to be the main character."
- "She thinks she's Wonyoung or something."
- "The forced siren eyes, welp me."
- "What is she doing?"
- "Is she doing dr*gs?"
When this discussion reached X users, K-pop stans, especially Filipino fans, were appalled and enraged with the amount of hate towards the 17-year-old celebrity.
Gehlee Dangca became first known after she joined the "Universe Ticket," the same survival audition program that birthed her current group UNIS.
But even when she was yet to debut, the idol already earned attention for her soft, delicate movements, and gestures like a princess. As fans did more digging about her pre-debut days, they discovered that Gehlee was not faking her image, and that her eyes have always been like that.
Since she was young, the K-pop idol has been doing modeling gigs and joining numerous beauty pageants in the Philippines. Due to this, she was trained to embody the gestures and walk she often shows.
