The mass outrage of K-pop fans regarding the idol deepfakes reached the attention of YG Entertainment, which released its take on the issue.
On September 2, YG Entertainment released an official statement addressing the online deepfakes of its artists. The agency stated that they were aware of the inappropriate AI-generated content of YG artists and would proceed to take action.
YG shared that the company is consistently monitoring any malicious activities online in order to remove or block such content. It followed up that legal action would also be implemented to these illegal posts. Read the agency's full statement below:
"Hello. This is YG Entertainment.
We are seriously worried about the situation where inappropriate deepfake (AI-based synthetic video) content is being created and circulated involving our artists.
We are continuously monitoring widespread and malicious illegal activities to remove or block illegal content, as we are looking forward to taking all possible legal actions, including criminal proceedings.
We will continue to take strong legal action against any illegal doings that seriously harm the dignity and reputation of our artists.
Thank you."
