The investigation surrounding Kim Ho Joong's drunk driving incident has received an update.
Yonhap News reported on November 13 that Kim Ho Joong was sentenced to two years and six months in prison in his first trial. The sentence was given by Choi Min Hye, the judge overseeing Kim Ho Joong's case at the Seoul Central District Court.
The decision to hand the sentence was based on the trot star's violation of the Road and Traffic Act by driving under the influence of alcohol and leaving the crime scene. The court also released a brief statement addressing the violation.
"Kim Ho Joong has caused personal and material damage by crashing at the victim's taxi while under the influence of alcohol. He didn't only escape irresponsibly, but also instructed his manager and others to falsely turn themselves in to the authorities on his behalf."
The court also shared that Kim Ho Joong had tried to deny the crime with "unconvincing excuses" despite the overwhelming evidence at hand.
The incident took place on May 9, when Kim Ho Joong had collided with a taxi while intoxicated. The singer was also criticized by netizens for using his manager as a scapegoat.
