Hyoyeon expressed her dismay with the lack of basic manners from junior idols, and compared the current generation to the previous K-pop era.
On November 29, Koyote Bbaek Ga, who joined SBS powerFM's "Cultwo Show" as a special DJ, met fellow artists H.O.T. Lee Jae Won and Girls' Generation Hyoyeon. There, they talked about the idol culture then and now.
Hyoyeon aimed at the younger generation, saying:
"When we were trainees, people would deliver food to us. We always bowed at a 90-degree angle to them. We bowed at a 90-degree angle when we opened the door, you punk!"
To be polite and make the work easier for deliverymen, the "Gee" singer added that they would also clean up all the food to look like they washed the dishes.
With this, she brought up the issue of juniors lacking basic manners but excused herself for being old-fashioned. However, the two first-gen idols agreed with Hyoyeon on how important greetings are.
To delve deeper into the topic, Lee Jae Won made the female star open up about her experience with junior idols on music shows.
In particular, it was a K-pop culture in the past for juniors to visit their seniors' waiting rooms to greet them and sometimes, gift them their albums.
Bbaek Ga then shared that while he was initially overwhelmed with the thoughts that junior groups are lining up to bow to them, he now finds it strange that no one does it these days but the producers.
Hyoyeon agreed that she also felt uncomfortable with having juniors come to her for greetings, but she clarified that she was pertaining to the instances when she would casually bump into them in hallways.
She said:
"When passing by the hallways, I think eye contact or at least a nod should happen. But they don't even make eye contact these days. They don't greet at all."
