While a plethora of celebrities are silent about South Korea's situation right now, Lee Chaeyeon bravely took to her SNS platform to send her support to the recent candlelight vigils held for the impeachment of President Yoon. She also encouraged her fans to join her.

However, due to her image as a celebrity, some expressed their concerns about her bold move, with many telling her that it is not her place to talk about politics. Many also pointed out her "carelessness."

Amid the backlash, Lee Chaeyeon surprisingly responded to her critics, writing:

"It isn't my place to talk about politics? Then what kind of position allows someone to talk about politics? I'll do what I need to do as a citizen and as a member of society. I will mention things as I need to.

I'm a celebrity, so I'm going to speak up. I know very well that you're worried about me saying this because I'm an idol. But I'm also a citizen. I appreciate your concern. Let's live in a better world. Let's love to our heart's content in that world."

Following this, the criticism of the idol didn't die down as Jeong Yura, the daughter of Choi Soon Sil, who was involved in a political issue in 2016, sniped at the K-pop idol.

Jeong Yura questioned the idol's intention and wrote on Facebook:

"It is true that the position is unnecessary when talking about politics, but it is a problem when you are suddenly talking about it when you have not been interested at all until now."

She went on:

"Wake up. Are you even aware of the fact that the Democratic Party has squandered the budget? (...) If you want to speak freely, understand the situation properly before you speak."
