The Power of K-Pop at the Prudential Center

Born and raised on the east coast, I grauduated from college in 2015 the same year the then west coast-based "All Things Hallyu" event called KCON officially expanded eastward.

It just so happens the same venue that holds my university's commencements became, and still is, the same venue where the biggest K-pop event of the U.S. continues to be held. Prudential Center.

Just last year Billboard named the New Jersey venue "The East Coast Home of K-Pop." Considering the roster of Korean artists that have held concerts at the "Pru" - including the attendance from fans and concertgoers, it is more than safe to say the Prudential Center is the epicenter of all things Hallyu on the east.

Located in the heart of downtown Newark, NJ, the concert and sports venue that seats a capacity of 19,500 has booked legendary K-pop acts for the past seven years with most of them selling out in an instant.

From their first K-pop concert with JYJ in 2011 to BigBang (2012 and 2015) and EXO (2016 and 2017), the Prudential Center continues to amplify their reputation as the east coast home of K-pop as they book four major events for 2018: KCON 2018 New York on June 23 and 24 and BTS' "Love Yourself" World Tour on September 28 and 29.

Since K-pop's ongoing popularity on the western hemisphere, Prudential Center managed to book almost every major K-pop tour that has touched U.S. soil grossing over $17 million. By the end of 2018, the venue anticipates to have 20 K-pop events for a gross of around $22.4 million.

The power of K-pop continues to flourish and influence online Pru's online presence as the venue's engagement for show coverage from the past two years (KCON 2016, BTS Wings Tour, EXO's EℓyXiOn Tour, KCON 2017) garnered 405,000 engagements and 3.4 million impressions.

In addition, according to the Prudential Center, the venue receives 5 to 240 times more impressions during the week of a K-pop show than a standard show.

Carrying 16 K-pop events under their belt and fans attending in droves of thousands per event, the Prudential Center reigns as K-pop's mecca of the east coast giving fans the opportunity to see their faves up close and personal, regardless of age and generation. Including myself.
