Gaon Chart awarded new albums and songs with official certifications!

Since January 2018, the new certification system of the Korea Music Content Industry Association has been applied to all works released and licensed in Korea. The process covers achievements in album sales, downloads, and online streaming.

An album becomes certified "Platinum" only if it sells over 250,000 copies six weeks after the album's release, but if it surpasses one million album sales the album gets a "Million" certification.

For downloads, a song is to receive a "Platinum" certification if the track gets downloaded over 2.5 million times and "Diamond" if over 10 million times. And as for online streaming, "Platinum" certification requires 100 million instances of streaming while 1 billion for "Billion" certification.

On June 6, the Gaon Chart revealed that four albums had received new certifications. BTS's "Map of the Soul: Persona" has gained the "Triple Million" certification for album sales. The group's extended play is the first ever to reach this breakthrough since the system was implemented. BTS was able to achieve such numbers in less than two months since the EP was launched on April 12, 2019.

While BTS earned Triple Million Certification, BLACKPINK's "Kill This Love," TWICE's "Fancy You," and GOT7's "Spinning Top: Between Security & Insecurity" have all obtained platinum certifications, being able to sell over 250,000 album copies each since their releases.

As for the streaming category, BLACKPINK's Jennie's "SOLO" and Vibe's "Fall in Fall" both became certified "Platinum," meaning that the two tracks exceeded 100 million streams.

In the meantime, there are no new albums and songs added in the 'download' section. Only six albums have received "Platinum" certification so far - SHAUN's (숀) "Way Back Home,"

BLACKPINK's "DDU-DU DDU-DU," Bolbbalgan4's (볼빨간사춘기) "Yeohaeng (여행)," Paul

Kim's (폴킴) "모든 날, 모든 순간 (Every day, Every Moment)," Roy Kim's (로이킴) "그때

헤어지면 돼 (Only Then)," and iKON's "사랑을 했다 (LOVE SCENARIO)."

The other albums that earned "Platinum" certification in the past months for the year 2019 in 'album sales' category are SEVENTEEN's "You Made My Dawn," BLACKPINK's "Square Up," Wanna One's "Power of Destiny," TWICE's "YES or YES," and EXO's "Don't Mess Up My Tempo," and "Two Platinum" certification for EXO's "Love Shot."

Meanwhile, the previous songs that achieved "Platinum" certification in the 'streaming' section are Paul Kim's "Me After You," IU's "BBIBBI," TWICE's "Dance The Night Away," BTS's "FAKE LOVE," and many more!
