Upcoming Sony Phones 2014: Xperia Z2 Finally Arrives In US But Gets Steep Price Tag, Hitting Verizon In August

Announced back at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the Xperia Z2 is not one of the upcoming Sony phones in 2014 which is expected to hit the US market any time soon.

After all, the Japanese manufacturer even announced last year that it will be focusing its new devices in EU, the UK and Japan, and probably some neighboring Asian countries - but not the US where it faces tough competition in Apple, Samsung and other OEMs.

However, in a new report by GSM Arena, the Sony Xperia Z2 is finally available in the US through its official Sony US website. Unfortunately, interested buyers and Sony fans may have to prepare their budgets as the Android-powered smartphone is priced at a steep $700 off-contract.

Unfortunately, there are no carriers which offer the device just yet, though in a separate report, Verizon should offer the device next month.

The addition of the Xperia Z2 adds another option for a tightly competitive US mobile market where new Android flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One M8, and LG G3 are already vying for the second spot, behind Apple's iPhone 5s which still sits on top.

But as the only smartphone in the bunch that offers a 20.7MP primary shooter, the Xperia Z2 will definitely appeal to owners who often use their phones as a portable camera.

Could this launch also mean that Sony is finally expanding its market outside of the US and Japan, and making the US soil a priority as well?

Rumors are circulating all over the tech world that the upcoming Xperia Z3, together with a Z3 Compact would be announced at the IFA event in Berlin. What's surprising is that these two devices will allegedly hit the US market sooner than their predecessors.

This is certainly a cause for celebration especially for tech geeks who just can't enough of the dozens of choices in the US market today.
