Sony Xperia Z2 Compact Release Date: Android ‘Mini’ Version Of Flagship Already Launched In Japan? End Of The Year Availability Still Expected

Sony Xperia Z2 Compact release date: The Android powered “mini” version of Sony’s current flagship, the Sony Xperia Z2, has already been launched in Japan, dubbed the Sony Xperia A2. The handset is exclusively available from NTT DoCoMo.

Specs of the A2 could be the basis for the Sony Xperia Z2 and many speculate that this is the case. The unit has a 4.3-inch display with a 1280 x 720 resolution. The handset is also powered by a 2.2GHz quad-core processor together with 2GB of RAM, a 20.7MP camera and a front-facing 2.2MP camera. The handset also has a 16GB internal storage with microSD support and a 2300 mAh battery. Other features of the Sony Xperia A2 include a dust and water-resistant built.

All these features are expected from the Sony Xperia Z2, but with minor modifications. The launch of new handsets by the Japanese tech giant on timeframes of only six months from a preceding release is based on their intent to keep up with the wave of competing flagships in the market today.

The highly anticipated Sony Xperia Z2 Compact is expected to compete with the upcoming HTC One Mini 2. The Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini, the most recent compact version of the flagship Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini is expected to be in the market very soon.

Like most mobile handset makers these days, Sony has not put out an official statement regarding an upcoming Sony Xperia Z2 Compact, thus making all rumors and news about the matter mere speculations.

But based on the company’s history of releasing gadgets, it will not be surprising if Sony will unveil a new Android mini version of their famous and well received Xperia Z2 line.

We'll be delivering more updates about the Sony Xperia Z2 Compact in the coming weeks. Do you feel this unit will be unveiled soon?
