OnePlus One Release Date: The Failure Of What Could've Been The Best Android Phone This Year

Announced back in March just after HTC launched its HTC One M8, the OnePlus One release date has been one of the most expected this year, mainly because of the affordable price tag and the chance to play with the CyanogenMod version of Android Kit Kat out of the box.

OnePlus, while an entry-level company, has been heavy on its marketing, and it worked wonders for the device even before it launches.

Unfortunately, almost four months after the phone has been announced and it is still rare (at least) to find.

Even before the phone was unveiled, it was already pitted against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One M8, Sony Xperia Z2, and the Oppo Find 7 and 7a.

At below $400, the phone is really a steal considering it packs a 5.5-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, quad-core CPU, Snapdragon 801 chipset, and 3GB of RAM.

There is also a 13MP primary camera and a 5MP secondary camera. While there is no microSD card slot, there are options for either 16GB or 64GB of internal memory.

These details are all top notch during its announcement, as the LG G3 was launched almost two months later. Now, the LG G3 is available in the US. Almost a dozen midrange smartphones have also been released and available already.

So basically, what we're saying is that the OnePlus One failed miserably in reshaping the market in its favor due to supply or probably development issues.

Yesterday, Chinese brand Xiaomi has released a similarly-spec'd smartphone with a similar price tag - the Mi4. This new flagship will make waves due to its quality, design and affordable pricing, but it will be able to deliver what the OnePlus failed to do - actually sell it.
