Barclay's Premier League: Carlisle United 0-1 Sunderland

The Sunderland maintains their victory in the pre-season form; it was because of their young players who came to the fore at Brunton Park as the "Black Cats".

The competitive players such as Alfred N'Diaye, Connor Wickham and Billy Jones all went an inch close for Sunderland in the first half but the introduction of youth players in the second half demonstrate to be the difference.

Mikael Mandron possessed the winning goal with 19 minutes to go after a neat one-two with George Honeyman, who happens to be an Academy player.

"The plan was to give the senior players 60 minutes on the pitch and then give the youngsters the chance to show how much it means to them to be involved in the first team squad," head coach Gus Poyet told www.safc.com.

"They were young, hungry players and after they came on with the game at 0-0 it opened up and there were plenty of chances - credit to [Mikael] Mandron who put the ball in the net."

"It's a great experience for the youngsters. They've travelled with the team and they''ve been in the dressing room and they've so keen to be involved and it just shows what can happen when they get their chance."

Sunderland (1-60 mins): Mannone, Jones, Diakite (McNamee, 28), Brown, N'Diaye, Cabral, Gomez, Mavrias, Moberg Karlsson (Gooch, 53), Giaccherini, Wickham.
