LA Lakers Coach Is Byron Scott? After Mulltiple Interviews, Tinseltown Finally Makes The Offer! Is He The Right Man For The Job?

The LA Lakers have finally decided on a coach. They have extended an offer to Byron Scott, and the latter is expected to accept it considering he took four interviews with them. Is he the right man for the job.

The official word from ESPN:

"The Los Angeles Lakers have offered their head coaching job to Byron Scott, according to league sources.

The two sides are now in negotiations on a contract.

The Lakers made Scott a verbal offer on Thursday after Scott spoke with owner Jim Buss. Scott and his representatives are now in the process of reviewing the Lakers' offer."

Byron Scott has stated that coaching the Lakers is his dream job. He was a part of the Showtime Lakers in the 80s playing with Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and the cancer-stricken Michael Cooper en route to 5 championships.

Scott's last coaching gig was with the Cleveland Cavaliers right after LeBron James left. That's probably the worst job ever. The roster was built around LeBron James, and then he left. Their lead scorer was an aging Antawn Jamison. The best part was becoming the mentor for Kyrie Irving.

The Lakers roster is not so promising either. But an aging, recovering from injury Kobe Bryant is still way better than what Scott had with the Cavs. A mix of veterans (Steve Nash, Carlos Boozer) to guide the young players with something to prove (Ed Davis, Jordan Hill, Nick Young) and rookies (Julius Randle) may be a workable bunch as long as expectations are kept realistic.

ESPN's Marc Stein states that Byron Scott is the best choice given the circumstances:

"The reviews are bound to be mostly unkind after Scott's rough stint in Cleveland, but this is a no-win job anyway. The Lakers are biding time until they can make a splashy acquisition, which might not be until (gasp) 2016 free agency. They know, deep down, that this is not an attractive job at the minute. Hiring Scott puts a popular former Laker in charge to win sway with the fans and replaces Mike D'Antoni with a coach Kobe will support. Those are the reasons, realistically, that L.A. chose him."

Scott will guide the Lakers and their hordes of fans through another year of waiting, not winning. That's something they have to accept.
