'Firefly Online' Release Date And First Look Gameplay Trailer: Original 'Firefly' Cast Including Nathan Fillion Doing Voice Over Work [PHOTO]

Firefly Online is getting closer to reality with the release of the first gameplay footage this past Friday (yesterday)

The game is slated to be released sometime this summer for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android. Players will get to step into Malcolm Reynold's shoes and be the captain of their own spaceship going on missions, assembling crews, and trading with other players.

The game will contain over 200 worlds and the cast of the television show are all voicing characters for the game. Joss Whedon, the creator of the origonal show, is not involved in the project.

"Players take on the role of a ship captain as they hire a crew and lead missions, while trading with and competing against millions of other players like themselves," the game description says. "Much like the crew of Serenity, the Firefly-class transport ship featured in the original show, players must do whatever it takes to survive in the Verse: find a crew, find a job and keep flying."

Firefly Online was first announced at the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con.

After the game comes out, a later DLC release is planned that would let players play as part of the Alliance or ReaversJoss Whedon, the creator of the cult hit, isn't involved in the game but is aware of it.

For those of you that never knew the show, or its tragic story. Firefly is probably one of the most beloved sci-fi shows of all time, but it only got one season, because Fox network is run by a drunken kangaroo. Its cult status allowed the show to be resurected for a movie and a proper ending years later, almost entirely on rabid fan support.
