Upcoming Motorola Phones 2014: Is The Moto G Maker Preparing The Next Nexus Device?

There aren't much news about upcoming Motorola phones for 2014 save for the rumored Moto X+1 flagship. Would that mean that the manufacturer is not preparing other devices at the moment?

According to a new report by Android Police, the manufacturer may have been developing an upcoming Nexus device for some time now. The report says the project dubbed 'Shamu' has already been under development after Google sold Motorola to Lenovo earlier this year.

In the report, some of Motorola's features like active display and voice recognition, as well as the company's design and build may all be seen in the upcoming Nexus device.

GSM Arena also reports that the Nexus device would be huge at a tipped screen size of 5.9 inches. If this display size rumor pans out to be true, then this Nexus could be the biggest in its lineup.

Earlier this year, rumors of a Nexus 6 smartphone was tipped to be assigned to HTC who was the first manufacturer to ever build an Android phone, as well as the first Nexus device. This was also connected to rumors wherein the Nexus lineup will see its end in the near future following Google's announcement of Android Silver, a program which aims to standardize the Android experience across manufacturers.

As once part of Google, a Nexus project for Motorola is certainly possible, considering that it has recently been successful in its affordable midrange lineup which includes the Moto G, Moto G 4G and the Moto E.

All of the mentioned Android phones have sold well in their respective markets in spite competing with higher-end models. That is because despite the lower price tags, these midrangers have almost all of the basic functions an Android user needs.

But since this is a Nexus phone, other features like a fingerprint scanner may also be present.
