OnePlus One Release Date: Is This High-End Smartphone Worth Waiting For?

OnePlus One release date is one of the most awaited dates of the year for Android fans who love CyanogenMod. However, in spite getting enough hype en route its announcement in March, startup company failed to deliver the smartphone just in time before competition started to get a lot tougher.

During its promotion stage, the OnePlus One only have a handful of handsets to deal with such as the Sony Xperia Z2, Samsung Galaxy S5 and then announced HTC One M8.

All three handsets are capable flagships in their own right, but consumers do not see them 'perfect' for their daily use.

The Xperia Z2 has a super huge frame due to its big bezels, the Galaxy S5 has a bandaid design, and the One M8 has the gimmicky 4MP UltraPixel cameras.

If OnePlus managed to release its phone on time, it would been one of the most sold phones during the second quarter, especially with its affordable price tag of only $400.

Fast forward to July, and still you're lucky if you can get your hands on one for the same price. The phone has not been officially released in most markets, and so the only way to get this Android-powered phone is through retailers, which often place a high mark-up price because they have imported the device.

And so the once $400 price tag will be priced up to $150 higher due to taxes, fees and mark-up. Is the OnePlus One still worth it? During its launch in March, it was certainly one of the favorites, but not anymore.

Since that time, a number of new flagships have been unveiled, and a few midrangers have also been announced.

Last week, Xiaomi unleashed its new flagship, the Mi4 which has the best specs for its price tag of only $320 for the 16GB version.

In a more competitive market, even if the OnePlus One release date comes upon us, it may not matter anymore.
