Upcoming Android Phones 2014: ZTE's 6" Phablet Leaked, Coming To T-Mobile

ZTE may not be one of the better known brands as far as upcoming Android phones for 2014 are concerned, but it is doing whatever it takes to get the market's attention.

According to a recent report by GSM Arena, the Chinese brand has been working on its 6-inch phablet for a while now, and some details of the upcoming device have been leaked online.

Dubbed as the ZTE Olympia with model number Z970, the phone packs a 6-inch display which should at least get an HD (1280 x 720) resolution display.

Allegedly leaked specs include an 8-megapixel primary camera at the back that can record 1080p videos, and a 0.9MP front cam. Also on board is a microSD card slot and a sealed battery, which should offer around 3,000mAh of power given the screen size.

While the leaker was not able to run benchmarks to show the details of the processor and RAM size, he confimed that the ZTE Olympia will run on near-stock Android 4.4 Kit Kat.

Interestingly, the Android phone has some pre-installed apps from T-Mobile such as Visual Voicemail, T-Mobile Hotspot, and MyApp, which means the smartphone may have already been in the carrier's care for months now.

Right now, we can not say much about availability, though the ZTE Olympia is certainly in the midrange category.

ZTE is lagging behind other Chinese brands such as Huawei and Xiaomi in terms of marketing and sales, though it is also a decent phone maker that manufacturers quality devices. Maybe a push in the midrange market overseas and from a local carrier would help.

Just last week, another Chinese manufacturer, Xiaomi has announced a high-end Android device that only costs $320 for its 16GB version, which is certainly one of the best buys when it becomes available next month. As for Huawei, it is still the third top selling smartphone manufacturer behind Apple and Samsung.
