Barclays Premier League: Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa win in the friendly matches

Toronto FC 2-3 Tottenham Hotspur

Andros Townsend attained the winning goal after Toronto FC had launched back from conceding two Erik Lamela goals in a five-goal thriller at a sold-out BMO Field.

Mauricio Pochettino's side lead the first period with the attacking quartet of Lamela, Christian Eriksen, Aaron Lennon and Roberto Soldado causing no end of problems for the Toronto defence; it is in Spurs' second match of their US and Canadian tour.

On the other hand, Lamela and Lennon both had worthy chances to open the goaling before the Argentinian player dragged his first after 16 minutes, following a clever dummy by Soldado. His second arrived five minutes before half-time after he started and finished a sweeping move involving Lennon and Soldado.

However, former Spurs striker Jermain Defoe, the Toronto featured, battled back after the break with Andrew Wiedeman and Jordan Hamilton pegging back the visitors, until Townsend came off the bench to curl in the winner with five minutes to go.

Spurs first-half XI: Brad Friedel; Kyle Naughton, Younes Kaboul, Milos Veljkovic, Ben Davies; Etienne Capoue, Ryan Mason; Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela, Aaron Lennon; Roberto Soldado.

Spurs first-half XI: Friedel; Kyle Walker, Michael Dawson, Zeki Fryers, Danny Rose; Tom Carroll, Lewis Holtby; Andros Townsend, Cristian Ceballos, Iago Falque; Harry Kane.

Dallas 0-2 Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert acclaimed the performance of his players after they got the  victory at the Toyota Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Andreas Weimann released the scoring just before half-time, firing home after an incisive pass from Darren Bent while Charles N'Zogbia added a second on 49 minutes with a superb free-kick.

"It was a really tough game for us," Lambert told www.avfc.co.uk. "We're not long started back for pre-season. Obviously Dallas has played a lot of league games. So it was difficult," he explained.

He added: "One of the big factors in their favour was the heat. We're certainly not used to that - the conditions were really, really tough. I have never experienced heat like this. It is really tough, even when you're walking around. It's pretty exhausting at times.

"But I was delighted with the two teams I put out. I thought we dominated the second half. But it was a hard, hard game overall."
