Samsung Galaxy Alpha Gets 'Another' Release Date, Korean Company's First Metal-Clad Smartphone Poised To Make Waves

After getting a launch date on August 3, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha release date was moved to August 13 once more.

It looks like rumors about the upcoming metal-clad Android phone from Samsung has gone haywire and has provided different release dates for the device.

Earlier, the Android-powered smartphone is said to be unveiled on August 13, and yesterday sources claim that its release date would be moved to the 3rd instead to give it more headway before the phablet Galaxy Note 4 makes its way to the market.

Now, we're back to the 13th.

Aside from the update Samsung Galaxy Alpha release date, a source from GSM Arena also pointed out that the Exynos chipset that it will run is actually the 5422 variant, which reportedly left the Snapdragon 805 chipset in the dust in a benchmark.

Previously tipped to be a midranger, the Galaxy Alpha is slowly turning out to be a real iPhone 6 threat, with its 4.6-inch display, 12MP primary camera and a 2MP front shooter.

The device also packs a nano SIM card slot, a 32GB built-in storage and Android 4.4 Kit Kat out of the box.

For the longest time, the Korean manufacturer has been bashed by Android and even Samsung users for choosing polycarbonate plastic in a consistent basis instead of using aluminum or metal just like other flagships in the market.

With just plastic, most Samsung phones, even those in the flagship category, are said to look and feel cheaper and less premium than other smartphones which are actually cheaper.

It turns out that the only thing that would push Samsung to build a metal phone is competition, this time against the rumored 4.7-inch iPhone 6.

We'll see in the coming days when the metal-clad Samsung phone will actually be available.
