Upcoming Android Phones 2014: Huawei Prepares A 6.1" Monster Phone To Rival Competition, Rumored Features Include Metal Body, Fingerprint Scanner

Huawei has been developing some gorgeous upcoming Android phones for 2014 lately, and its upcoming phablet is certainly not an exception.

According to a report by GSM Arena, the Android-powered handset has been spotted on AnTuTu's benchmarking app, where its specs have been confirmed.

Dubbed as the Ascend Mate 3, the Huawei smartphone will reportedly get a huge 6.1-inch display, just like its predecessors. However, whereas its previous versions were strictly midrange phablets a la Galaxy Mega style, this one may just break the trend. The change starts with the phone's Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution compared to the HD screen of its predecessor.

In the benchmark, the Ascend Mate 3 is said to get a HiSilicon Kirin 920 chipset with an octa-core CPU. In previous reports, Huawei boasted that its homebaked chipset has soundly beaten the Snapdragon 805 chipset of Qualcomm, though we have not yet seen the difference in performance in day-to-day use.

Aside from the chipset, the Ascend Mate 3 also gets an improvement in the RAM department as it reportedly gets either a 2GB of 3GB variant.

The phone will run on Android 4.4.4 Kit Kat out of the box, which is great news for consumers who always to get the latest Android version running in their devices.

Finally, the phone will pack a 13MP primary camera at the back, while a 5MP secondary shooter is located in front.

Even before the launch of the device, Huawei's Ascend Mate 3 already has competition ready to give it a good fight. The LG G3 is one of the top spec'd smartphones to date, but it comes with a steep price. Xiaomi's newly announced Mi4 is certainly on the cheaper side, with pricing starting at only $320, but it is still fairly an unknown brand in some markets compared to Huawei.

We will bring you more updates about this Huawei smartphone in the coming days and weeks, with a possible unveiling just before the IFA event.
