Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Box Office Results: Overtakes Guardians of the Galaxy, After Grossing Around $28.7M Last Weekend!

Paramount's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or TMNT more than double the box office earnings of Disney-Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy last Friday. TMNT movie adventure opened to $28.7 million last weekend and on its way for a much higher anticipated net of $62 million to $65 million and Guardians of the Galaxy to reach about $43 million.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle produced by Michael Bay and directed by Jonathan Liebesman opened last weekend to No. 1 in 17 of 19 markets, including the big markets of Mexico and Russia. In Mexico the shellbacks grossed $6.6 million from 653 locales, besting last weekend's opening of the movie entitled Guardians of the Galaxy which took $6.5 million.

Actors starring on the movie were Megan Fox and Will Arnett together with the titular pizza-loving comic book heroes, Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michaelangleo.

"Launching a new take on the Turtles into the feature film world was a daunting task because, as fans of them ourselves, we felt a great responsibility to ensure audiences were going to experience everything they loved about Turtles, while also getting to see them brought to life in a way they had never been seen before," Adam Goodman the President of Paramount said.

"The result exceeded our high expectations and the response to the film is beyond great, making it all the more fun to get started on the continuation of their story," Goodman added.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle played to everyone ranging from ages. From the kids who discovered the property through its new incarnations to adults who were fans of 80s and 90s when the franchise came about.

The first TMNT movie was debuted with $25 million way back in March 1990 which was the biggest opening weekends of all time.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle or the Guardians of Galazy, either of the two will sink or swim depends upon on the foreign grosses, analyst said.
