Upcoming Xiaomi Phones 2014: Mi4 Expected To Sell Better Than Most Android Flaghips This Year

One of the upcoming Xiaomi phones for 2014 is the Mi4, and it's a flagship like no other.

The main reason is that it does not cost just like other flagships. It has its own price range and completely reinvents how high-end smartphones should be priced. When it launched a couple of weeks ago, the 16GB version is said to cost only $320 while the 64GB variant is priced at $400.

In comparison, the current flagships today which include the Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One M8, and the LG G3 are all priced way higher at more than $700.

But as far as specs are concerned, the Mi4 shares most of the specs which those other high-end devices have. The Android-powered handset packs a 5-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, 3GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 801 chipset, and a quad-core CPU clocked at 2.5GHz.

But what does the Xiaomi Mi4 offer that no other phone does?

Well, the phone packs a 13MP primary camera at the back and paired it with an 8MP front cam - certainly higher than most Android flagships have so far. The closest to it is the 5MP front-facing shooter of the HTC One M8.

While the Galaxy S5 has a higher primary camera at 16MP, the 3MP difference can easily be overlooked when you look at the price tag for both handsets.

Even with the previous flagship, the Mi3, Xiaomi has managed to sell over 10 million units, and that was way back in July. Xiaomi's combination of high-end and midrange units have made it a favorite among smartphone shoppers, especially in its home market in China.

A couple of weeks ago, research firm Canalys reported that Xiaomi has overtaken Samsung in phone sales in China, which is no simple feat. And with the quality of devices it continues to release and with such affordable costs, only time will tell for Xiaomi to eclipse Samsung and other OEMs even in other markets outside of China.
