New Ending For ‘Gone Girl’ Film? Actress Rosamund Pike Teases Potential Story Change

Does the upcoming film adaptation of "Gone Girl" have a new ending? As rumors circulate around the potential alteration from the Gillian Flynn's best-selling novel, actress Rosamund Pike teases that there may be a story change.

Then again, there may not be one.

"We gotta preserve some surprises," Pike told E! News at the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of her new indie flick "Hector and the Search for Happiness."

"That's all my job is at the moment: preserving the surprises and making sure that people who are going to the cinema are the ones who get to experience it," she added.

Pike, who stars in the David Fincher film as Amy Dunne, claims that the buzz around "Gone Girl" is intense compared to her experience with other projects.

"It's so exciting that everybody is so aware of it. I've never really been part of a project that has so much tangible awareness," said the British actress, adding, "It's very exciting."

Speculation about a potential new ending for the film adaption sparked when the project's director, David Fincher, told Entertainment Weekly that changes had been made to the script.

In the interview, Fincher explained that Ben Affleck was shocked when he read the adjusted script during production. "He would say, 'This is a whole new third act!" explained Fincher. Referring to the screenwriter, he added, "She literally threw that act out and started from scratch!"

The popular novel's author, Gillian Flynn, also added fuel to the flame when she discussed the film's ending with EW.

"There was something trilling about taking this piece of work that I'd spent about two years painstakingly putting together with all its 8 million Lego pieces and take a hammer to it and bash it apart and reassemble it into a movie," said Flynn.

However, the yet-unseen "new ending" may not vary as boldly from the paperback "Gone Girl" as many believe.

Cara Buckley of the New York Times, who was granted a private screening, reported, "Contrary to early speculation, the film hews closely to the book."

As for Pike, the actress explains that her focus not on building up anticipation for the film, but instead on making sure that Flynn's devoted readers enjoy the highly-anticipated big screen version.

"I just hope that we keep the fans of the book happy right now," she said. "That's all I'm focusing on."
