Martha Stewart Interview: 'Living' Guru Slams Gwyneth Paltrow Blog, Hasn't Had 'Time Or inclination' To Advocate Prison Reform

Martha Stewart just gave an interview to Net-A-Porter’s Porter Magazine, and she had some pretty explosive comments to give about some of her lifestyle-guru peers, among others. Page Six reports that the Living slammed both Gwyneth Paltrow and Blake Lively, along with Facebook’s Cheryl Sandberg, and even Orange Is The New Black actress Taylor Schilling. She also spoke about the real-life obstacles that incarcerated women face – saying that while she believes the system fails them, she hasn’t felt particularly inclined to help.

Stewart says of Paltrow, who runs the lifestyle blog Goop, “She just needs to be quiet. She’s a movie star.” She adds that, “If she were confident in her acting, she wouldn’t be trying to be Martha Stewart.” Regarding Lively, Stewart says the younger actress consulted her before starting her own e-commerce site, Preserve. The mogul declined to comment on the site, deferring to her senior vice president Kevin Sharkey, who says, “I don’t get the sense that she’s credible. She’s enthusiastic, but she’s not credible.”

On the subject of Sanberg’s best-selling book, Lean In, Stewart had some choice words – going as far as to call the entire concept a waste of time. While the Facebook COO posits that women should devote more energy to fighting sexism in the workplace, Stewart believes that “being entrepreneurial is something women should strive for, rather than working up the corporate ladder.”

When discussing her own time in prison for obstruction of justice in 2004, Stewart got to criticizing Orange, the popular Netflix series about women behind bars. “They could have done so much better,” she says, remarking about Schilling, “That girl is not good enough.” As for real-life imprisoned women, Stewart says, “I feel sorry for all of them…the system lets them down.” She adds that, “I have not had the time or the real inclination to help, but right now, there is a huge movement against the penal system.”
