HTC Desire 820 Release Date: Selfie-Focused Android Handset Is The Best Midranger Today, Beats Other Selfie Camera Phones

After the IFA event in Berlin earlier this month, a lot of Android fans are already looking forward to the HTC Desire 820 release date.

That is because the smartphone is not only the second Android phone ever to get a 64-bit Snapdragon chipset (the first one is also an HTC smartphone, the Desire 510). It also packs an 8-megapixel selfie front camera.

In comparison, other top smartphone makers in the market including LG, Nokia and Sony only currently boast up to 5MP in their front cameras. Just last month, Sony announced its own selfie camera, the Xperia C3 with 5 megapixels in front, while Nokia made its 'Superman' phone Lumia 730 official. Unfortunately, it only packs a 5MP sensor in front.

Samsung has been reportedly working on its selfie-oriented smartphone, and it is even rumored to boast a metal design. But before it is launched, the HTC Desire 820 has already gained traction.

While the Desire 820 is marketed as a midranger with a lower frequency octa-core CPU and Snapdragon 615, its other specs are flagship material.

At the back of the device is a 13MP 'regular' camera which is arguably better than UltraPixels, and there is a 2GB of RAM. The screen is also huge at 5.5 inches, though there is only HD resolution (1280 x 720).

The microSD card slot supports up to 128GB of expanded memory, which should be a welcome addition to smartphone users who love storing movies, songs and other media in their phones.

Also on board is a decent 2,600mAh battery, and Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat out of the box.

The question now is how much the HTC Desire 820 would cost. With all of these specs, an impressive design and an industry-leading selfie camera, one could argue that it would cost around $400-500. But we sure hope it would be on closer to $400 than $500.

If the Taiwanese manufacturer is able to bring a decent price tag for this higher-end midranger, then the Desire 820 could be the best-selling HTC phone this year.
