San Antonio Spurs Roster Ready To Take On New Powerhouses In Upcoming NBA Season

After the 2014 NBA season, the San Antonio Spurs roster is the best in the league, capturing its fifth NBA title in a lopsided Finals series with the Miami Heat where it won an averaged of 18 points in the last three games.

However, that win would not just be ground-breaking for San Antonio, but would also shape the face of the NBA in the coming months.

A couple of months after losing to the Spurs, LeBron James chose to leave Miami and return home to Cleveland where a young and talented squad is waiting. One can argue that if James and the Heat did not lose to the Spurs, the Big Three in Miami should still be in-tact, and there would be no power shift in the East.

James' Decision 2.0 was just the beginning of a league-wide change in the East, where the Cavs intantly became favorites. Meanwhile the Heat is still a solid team with its new acquisitions, and with a re-signed Chris Bosh expected to be the main man.

Chicago has also beefed up its lineup with offense-minded players which include Pau Gasol, Doug McDermott, and Nikola Mirotic. Windy City will also feature Return 2.0 for Derrick Rose, who has played decent in the recent FIBA World Cup.

Indiana has greatly fallen after losing two of its best two-way players in Lance Stephenson (free agency), and Paul George (injury).

On the other side of the league, the Mavs are still shaping up to be competition with San Antono as it brings back elite rim defender Tyson Chandler, and signs a young versatile swingman in Chandler Parsons. Dirk Nowitzki's age clock is ticking and is poised to lead Dallas to another tough run to reach the Playoffs, and potentially come out with an upset against one of the top-seeded teams.

Of all these major changes, and a lot more minor ones, it appears that San Antonio is still among the favorites to win the title. However, in the Spurs' history, they have never won back-to-back championships in the NBA. But unlike those years, the Spurs this year would still boast the same roster, one which has played together for almost 4 years already.

That experience and familiarity in playing together will be the difference here, and the Spurs certainly has the advantage in that department.
