‘Psycho-Pass 2’ Updates And Rumors: Official Release Date Set For October 23rd? Fans Still Have Mixed Feelings About Writing Switch From Gen Urobuchi To Tow Ubukata

It is now mid-September and while anime fans may have their hands full with the recent release of the second most anticipated Fall anime, "Fate/Stay Night," they may have to wait until late October for "Psycho-Pass" season two. On top of this, fans are still unsure of how to feel about the switch from Gen Urobuchi to Tow Ubukata being in charge of the scripts for "Psycho-Pass 2."

"This is a bad news. But I am still hoping for at least a good 2nd season, even though it might not be better/as great as the 1st season," said one fan in the My Anime List forum for "Psycho-Pass 2" in response to the announcement that Gen Urobuchi, famously called ‘The Butcher' amongst anime fans, would not be penning the scripts for season two. Reactions across the forum are mixed however as some express excitement for Tow Ubukata's take on the series.

Anime News Network announced a few months back that, "popular author Tow Ubukata is overseeing the series scripts in the Psycho-Pass 2 television anime series which is premiering this October. His books include ‘Mitsukuniden' and ‘Mardock Scramble', and he has been involved in games, manga, and anime."

Since the announcement, fans in "Psycho-Pass" forums have broke out into multiple debates about the writer's respective skills. That debate has returned no doubt due to the fact that October is only weeks away. As one fan states, "Urobutcher isn't the only person who can make this series good. And also he may not be the main writer, but it's more than possible he will have a say in it or be involved a bit."

One interesting thing about the announcement of Tow Ubukata has surfaced among the Japanese websites. Although Google translate is probably not a reliable source for English Otaku fans, it would appear that in coverage of Tow Ubukata taking over the writing, Japan news sources seem to be slating October 23rd as the air date for "Psycho-Pass 2."

Some evidence against this (besides the obvious lost in translation problem) is that the end of "Zankyou No Terror" is fast approaching, and it wouldn't make sense for the network to leave the timeslot empty for long. But of course, nothing is set in stone until an official announcement. Until then, "Psycho-Pass" season one is available on Hulu.
